Special perforation
Radial 8 patterns
Rays and rosettes worked out from a center point.
What it is
Rays, fans and rosettes worked out from a center point, usually inside a square or diamond border. Every one of them is run at the largest round hole in the special range, so the figure holds together when it is read from floor level rather than dissolving into grey.
What it does
The design is centered on the tile, so it repeats once per panel and the ceiling reads as a grid of medallions rather than one continuous field. Each panel keeps a solid margin around the figure, which means a radial face is less open than an all-over pattern punched at the same hole size.
Where it is best used
Ceilings that are meant to be looked at: lobbies, reception areas, hotel public rooms and the head of a stair. They also work as a feature laid into a plain field, where one panel or a block of four carries the figure and the rest of the ceiling stays quiet.
Special perforation is a face pattern, not a performance specification. The special sheet publishes no open-area figure for any of these. Where the acoustic number is what has to be met, work from the uniform range, which gives an open area for every pattern in it.

The patterns
Every radial pattern
Each one has its own page with the panel sizes, hole options and mounting the catalog gives it. Name a pattern by its number: these have no names.
